Moisture testing is important because it identifies areas where moisture intrusion is occurring and how severe the damage may be. If ignored, it can seriously damage a home’s wood structure through rot and mold within the wall cavity.
Although moisture intrusion has become a focus behind stucco-clad homes, the issue can exist behind other cladding materials like brick, stone, fiber cement or cedar siding. The issue is most common in homes built between 1985 to 2003. Building codes and practices have since been updated to include the installation of kick out flashing, weep screed, and pan flashing under windows, and as a result, many of the issues have been resolved.
